Everyone loves a SaaS platform

As we reported in our latest NYC Seed Deal Report, Q1 deal volume remained consistent with last quarter, but total funding dropped 23%. While we expect to see a continuation of the trend toward fewer deals commanding larger price tags, Q1 saw a drop in median round size for the first time in six quarters. Q1’s average $1.54 million check is the lowest average check size since Q1 2016.

Enterprise SaaS platforms continued to drive the most deal activity this quarter, with particular emphasis on platforms that increase pricing transparency for corporate customers. Other sectors that showed particular strength were ecommerce marketplaces and financial services platforms that seek to democratize access to financial products.

The Primary NYC Seed Deal Report covers all NYC seed deals - which we define as $250K-$3.5MM - that have been publicly announced in each quarter. Data is sourced from Crunchbase and Primary Venture Partners research. If you know of any deals that we’ve missed in this report, please contact us at info@primary.vc!
