The Rest of the Story

I grew up in Iowa, where I chased excitement at the local bowling alley, boating or fishing by the lake, and playing ultimate frisbee near the gazebo with the other neighborhood kids. Living up to the cliché, I traded in cornfields for skyscrapers and began my career in New York City, where I landed my first job in venture capital. I'm incredibly grateful for all the opportunities and experiences I've had in this industry: traveling across the world to meet new startups; identifying breakthrough technologies (or superfluous tech products); and working with amazing entrepreneurs in a broad range of industries. Beyond my professional life, you'll find me running, playing tennis, writing short stories or long-winded Quora posts, and attempting to perfect my mother's cheesecake recipe.

Stuff You Wouldn't Know

  • First Job: My first job was a grocery sacker at Hy-Vee back in Iowa. Fun fact: Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner also worked at Hy-Vee during the months he went undrafted after graduating from the University of Northern Iowa.
  • Random Fact: I'm a huge video game nerd. I spent hours of my childhood playing Blizzard titles, Call of Duty and MOBA games. I still lug my PS4 across the country whenever I relocate for work. Now, I help advise entrepreneurs and investors who allocate millions of dollars into upcoming games and esports startups. My parents were totally wrong when they said gaming wouldn't help me in life!
  • My Travels: One of my fondest trips was to Aruba with my buddies from college. We went off-roading in ATVs across the island, through rocky hills and deserts, until we came across a gorgeous natural pool underneath huge rock formations that broke the waves off the northern coast. We spent the afternoon jumping and swimming in the clear blue water - just us and colorful tropical fish. Nowadays, this is the No. 1 rated Aruba activity on TripAdvisor.
