Erik works with Primary's portfolio companies to inform go-to-market strategies and explore new markets.

Erik is the director of Strategy & Market Development at Primary Venture Partners. In addition to assisting portfolio companies, Erik runs thought leadership efforts at Primary. Erik started his career as an investment analyst for AIM Capital in Saigon, Vietnam. While there, Erik saw AIM Capital use software tools to make better investment decisions both for the fund and for its portfolio companies. These tools helped to build more successful businesses, which in turn positively impacted the surrounding community; families were lifted out of poverty, and entire neighborhoods had access to previously unobtainable goods. Witnessing this transformation in Vietnam gave Erik the passion and purpose to pursue a career at the intersection of technology and entrepreneurship. After sharpening his core business skills for a number of years at Deloitte Consulting, Erik joined Box, a leading B2B SaaS company, where he owned product development and go-to-market strategy efforts.

Erik holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics & Economics from Claremont McKenna College, and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

The Rest of the Story

Growing up, I wanted to play centerfield for the Phillies and moonlight as an astronaut for NASA. I believed I could do these things because I grew up in an incredibly loving and supportive family, who always encouraged me to reach for my dreams.

Now, my dream is to become a fixture in the NYC VC/startup ecosystem, and to help build and grow Primary's portfolio companies. Outside of work, you'll find me rooting for my Philadelphia sports teams, researching my next travel destination or reading a good book.

Stuff You Wouldn't Know

  • First Job: When I was 13, I worked as a lifeguard for a Philadelphia-area country club. In my very first shift, I had to jump into the pool from the lifeguard stand and save a young boy who couldn't swim. That summer taught me a lot about hard work: I mopped bathroom floors, fixed broken pumps and taught swim lessons. Several summers and promotions later, I became the director of aquatics and oversaw all pool operations.

  • My Travels: I am an avid traveler and am always planning my next trip, whether it's a weekend getaway or an experience abroad. My most memorable trip was to North Korea, where I spent eight days in the spring of 2014.

  • Random Fact: I've caught a foul ball at a baseball game - twice!
