Most senior living facilities still rely on human eyesight, outdated software, and plastic pull cords to run their operations. Although this worked in the past, it is no longer scalable with a growing elderly population.
Instead, we believe the future of senior living requires a completely different architecture. Inspiren’s platform is driven by proprietary data captured through an ecosystem of custom ambient hardware, replacing an analog system with continuous insights and agentic workflows. Operators, staff, and seniors now get a proactive health engine instead of a reactive call button.
Why senior living is breaking now
The math underpinning senior care no longer works. People aged 85 and older make up the fastest-growing demographic cohort in the country. The oldest Baby Boomers turn 80 this year. For two decades, technology providers and venture capital ignored this asset class. As software ate the enterprise and hardware chased consumer wearables, senior living was left to manage on its own.
A more traditional analog model worked when labor was plentiful and seniors aged at home. But operators today face chronic understaffing and relentless caregiver burnout. Staff are asked to monitor sprawling halls of closed doors with zero visibility into what is happening behind them until something goes wrong.
The sheer volume of Baby Boomers entering senior living over the next five years will overwhelm existing operational capacity. You cannot physically hire enough people to check on every resident every hour of the night and properly manage residents throughout the day. Facilities need a mechanism to know exactly who needs help right now, before a routine movement becomes a catastrophic emergency. The entire industry is buckling under this reality.
The power of hardware
Inspiren’s hardware, sensors, and software sit in tens of thousands of resident rooms across more than 500 communities, producing a continuous record of how older adults actually live in senior living facilities. No company, no wearable, and no facility has ever captured this data.
Inspiren’s hardware ecosystem, coupled with AI, enables completely new insights and automations for facilities and staff. Most importantly, it ensures residents are safer. Through computer vision, the wall-mounted hardware watches for the specific physical precursors to a fall or potential problem. When the system detects a resident struggling to get out of bed, it immediately opens a two-way communication channel. Staff can de-escalate the situation verbally while physically running down the hall. For many facilities, this has resulted in a reduction of more than 50% in falls and hospitalizations. This means residents are safer in their homes, and caregivers can spend their time delivering care instead of managing trauma.
Fall reduction is just the start. Across an ecosystem of hardware devices, Inspiren is building a proprietary dataset of physical movement that flags early signals of cognitive decline and overall health degradation. Sleep disruption, changes in gait, increased bathroom visits, and many other signals are early indicators of larger problems. The platform captures these data points automatically and surfaces them to operators.

When we first met Michael and Alex, the broader venture market was obsessed with purely software-based digital health plays.
